Hi Evening Rotary Club Members!

An update on our meeting of May 20 and upcoming events are listed as follows:

- We thoroughly enjoyed the International Night festivities of May 20! Members who were born in other countries gave presentations on their native countries. Haroun Kamara discussed life in Sierra Leone, Jim Nelson talked about growing up in China as the son of medical missionaries and Mulima Walusiku discussed growing up in Zambia. They did an excellent job with their presentations. In addition to these interesting presentations, they provided samples of foods from their native countries along with Bernard Collier. It was a wonderful evening! Thanks to all of you who made this possible including the International Service Committee that is chaired by Kevin Keith. (Can we do this again?)

- Thanks to Mulima Walusiku for agreeing to chair the Polio Plus Project for our club! I know that she will do a great job with this very important project. Rotary International has a goal of raising $80 million over the next two years toward the goal of eradicating polio worldwide. This translates into a goal of approximately $60 per Rotarian.

- The board elected DJ Nash to fill the position of secretary and Bryan Pope to fill the position of chair of the Club Service Committee that DJ vacated. Congratulations to both of you!

- We have a very interesting program scheduled for this Monday night. Judge Jerry Venters, a Rotarian, will discuss his experiences with leading a Group Study Exchange team to Australia earlier this year. Don't miss it!

- Thanks to DJ Nash for another excellent write-up on our club's activities in the local newspaper on May 23! Way to go DJ!

- Don't forget your dues! They are due to our treasurer, Haroun, by June 10 in the amount of $50.

- We look forward to the installation of our District Governor for next year, Duane Benton, on July 8 at Memorial Park! This installation ceremony will take the place of our regularly scheduled meeting. It's most important that we have an excellent turnout of our members for this event.

I'm proposing that our board not meet this Monday night after the regularly scheduled meeting. In lieu of this, I would to meet with the treasurer and other officers this Monday night to work on the budget for the next fiscal year. Our board may still need to meet before July 1.
Remember: We need you and we need your help with recruiting new members! Who can you invite to attend the meeting with you Monday night to hear Judge Venters? See you Monday night at 5:30 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church!

Yours in Rotary,

Vic
