Jefferson City Evening Rotary Club – June 10, 2002
Kathy White presented a program in lieu of Kevin Keith on the Missouri Department of Transportation. Kathy delivered an excellent program, which included the following information:
* MoDOT responsible for 32,000 miles of roads, bridges, public transit, ports, aviation and rail
* In every survey, safety is the #1 priority Missourians demand in their public transportation system
* Also, in a recent survey Missourians by a 5 to 1 margin thought maintenance of current roads and bridges was more important than new construction – this led to MoDOT shifting resources to maintenance, while trying to finish up what was promised in the past to a point that makes sense (i.e. 4 lane ending at a major interchange)
* Kathy briefly discussed the August ballot issue and how much new resources this tax would raise and generally what it will be used for
Thanks to Kathy for this informative discussion.
Club quarterly dues of $50 were due at the June 10, 2002 meeting. If you were not able to pay at the meeting and have yet to pay, please bring the dues to the club’s next meeting.
Nancy McCanaugh, sponsored by Lora Nelson, has been recommended for membership by the board. If you wish to make a comment on Nancy’s membership, please contact a board member.
Mulima attended a meeting in Independence about the Rotary’s efforts to eradicate polio. Mulima discussed the meeting and indicated that more information on this fundraising effort will be provided at the induction ceremony of Duane Benton on July 8, 2002.
Lora Nelson indicated a form will be provided to members to collect information for a membership directory. This information will be collected and organized for a directory for all members of the evening rotary club. August is membership month so every member should be thinking of potential new members that would be interested in our club’s fellowship and service to the community.
Harry and Suzanne Richter have scheduled another Habitat work-day in July. A sign-up sheet and additional details will be provided at subsequent club meetings.
See you at the next meeting June 17, 2002.
