6/30/02
Hi Evening Rotary Club Members!
An update on our meeting of June 24 and upcoming events are listed as follows:
- Bryan Norman, representing the Lewis and Clark Task Force, made a presentation on the activities that they are planning. He presented biographical sketches of key members of the Corps of Discovery. One of the activities that is planned to commemorate the Corps of Discovery's trip to the Pacific coast includes "Lewis and Clark Trading Days" at Ellis Porter Park on September 28. This event includes a daylong program of crafts of the period, music, and story telling. Also, there will be demonstrations of black powder shooting, tomahawk throwing, and canoe construction. In addition, on June 3-4 they will host the reenactment of Lewis and Clark's passage through the Jefferson City area. (Thanks to the program chair for scheduling this presentation. It was very interesting!)
- Thanks to Bryan Pope and his committee for another excellent write-up in the Thursday evening newspaper regarding our club activities. Way to go Bryan!!!!!!!!!!
- July 8th is the date for the installation of Duane Benton as our District Governor. If you haven't sent Zoe Lyle an RSVP or check for $12.00 per person, then you might try reaching her on Monday, July 1. She is Executive Director of the Missouri Optometry Association at 100 East High Street, Suite 301, Jeff City, 65101. We do hope that you will do everything possible to attend this event on behalf of our club. Duane has been very helpful to our club especially in the early days of our formation. The installation evening begins at 6:00 p.m. with a social and then dinner at 6:30 and the installation ceremony begins at 7:30. The location is Mc''''''Clung Park.
- Our Habitat outing is on Saturday, July 13 at 8:00 a.m.! The address is 414 Cherry Street where we worked a few months ago. We need workers and we need our members to sign up to bring food and beverages for the workers. This is a great project and a terrific way to serve our community! Thanks to Harry and Suzanne Richter for arranging this for our club. Please make every effort to be there even if you can't be there all day. We'll even accept you part-time! By the way, we do hope that the Libeys will join us on July 13. We sure miss them! (Can we dunk Harry Richter if 20 members show up? What do you think, Harry?)
- The good news is that Tim Immel and his family are staying in the Jeff City community and not moving to Illinois! Hurrah! Hurrah! So, if you know of any sales positions for Tim in this area, then I'm sure that he would appreciate any leads. (Tim, we're thrilled that you are staying!)
- We will be having a board meeting this Monday, July 1 after our regularly scheduled club meeting. We have at least a few topics that we need to discuss.
- If you haven't paid your dues of $50.00 for this past quarter or your one-time initiation fee of $25.00, then please do so this Monday night and give it to Haroun Kamara or Vic Tomlinson. (I'd hate to have Mr. Jim Nelson, our Sergeant-at-Arms, fine you for being tardy!)
- This is a heads up! We will be calling on the Committee Chairs and Officers for updates at our meeting on July 1.
For our program this coming week, Bryan Pope is planning to have a member provide a biographical presentation or having a few members discuss July 4th activities and memories in other areas. We look forward to this program, Bryan!
Remember: We need you and we need your help with recruiting new members! (The goal is how many by December?) Who can you invite to attend the meeting with you this Monday night? See you Monday night at 5:30 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church!
Yours in Rotary,
Vic
