Jefferson City Evening Rotary Club - June 3, 2002 Meeting
President Vic Tomlinson led a discussion of business items:
* Mulima Walusiku will lead the group’s Polio Plus fundraising project. This is a great opportunity for the club to participate in a truly worthwhile and international cause.
* DJ Nash has been elected as Secretary and Brian Pope will take over her duties as Club Service Chairman and member of the club’s board.
* We will participate in another Habitat for Humanity project sometime in July.
* Club quarterly dues ($50) are due by the June 10, 2002 meeting.
* Duane Benton will be installed as District Governor at Memorial Park at 6:00 pm or so on July 8th. More information will be forthcoming on this exciting event.
* The membership committee will work on a plan to contact members that miss meetings. The international committee informed the club of the Brazilian exchange student that is going to be in Jefferson City.
* Our goal is to have 50 members by December 31, 2002. So, we need everyone’s help to reach this goal! Think about whom you can recruit for our club. Take the first step by inviting them to our next meeting.
* There was a brief induction ceremony for Mark Kiesling, Sue Heisler, and Brent McGinty.
Harry Richter presented a summary of the trip he and the Episcopal Church High School Youth Group took to Chicago recently. Seventeen people went, including Rotary members DJ Nash and Suzanne Richter, and the goal was to put kids in touch with service and helping others. The club had contact with homeless and runaways. The trip was informative and changed the life perspective of many members of the group.
Jerry and Cassie Venters attended our meeting and presented information on Jerry’s trip to Australia in February 18 - March 22, 2002, as a part of Rotary’s Group Study Exchange. The slide show was spectacular and informative. Four non-Rotarians went with Jerry and Jerry indicated he thought the experience will help shape those people and probably make them wonderful Rotarians in the future.
Kevin Keith is scheduled to present the program at our June 10th, 5:30 pm meeting. See everyone there!
