=== INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM - MONDAY, MAY 20, 2002 ===

The International Committee has planned a terrific program for tomorrow evening, given by members who were born in other countries. They will share stories and history from their native countries, as well as food, rumor hath it! This would be a great evening to bring prospective members.

=== LAST WEEK'S PROGRAM ===

Rotarian Tom Carr, retiring president of Rivercity Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, was our speaker last week. The house many of our members worked on a few weeks ago is the organization's 32 house in Jefferson City, and its third rehab property. Tom is working on a proposal that all the Rotary clubs in Jefferson City would pledge to work on a Habitat House one Saturday a month, giving Rotarians who enjoy this work a frequent opportunity to be involved. Tom gave an overview of the program including how families are selected and how the houses are financed.

=== NEW MEMBERS! ===

President Vic announced that Sam Khan, general manager of the Monroe Plaza Hotel, and Sue Heisler of St. Mary's Health Center are the newest members of the Jefferson City Evening Rotary Club. Be sure and introduce yourself to these fine folks, if you haven't already. Vic presented membership certificates to Mark Kiesling, Kevin Keith and Jim Perch as they were unable to attend the chartering ceremony.

=== SERVICE PROJECTS ===

Several members signed up to help with the Special Learning Center's yearend picnic. Volunteers were sought to relieve parents of some of the inevitable duties that go along with a school picnic. Service Club chairs Suzanne and Harry Richter will report on the club's involvement!

Members present voted to work with MODot on reserving a stretch of 179 under construction once it opens as part of the Adopt-a-Highway program. Few stretches of road are currently available.

=== GENERAL BUSINESS ===

Members present voted not to expect a refund on quarterly dues that were collected in the club's beginning for less than a full quarter. That money will remain in the treasury.

Jeff Kunce, chair of the Youth Exchange Committee, gave an update on the Evening Club's assisting the Jefferson City Rotary Club in finding three homes for a boy from Brazil during the next school year. He also reported that the Breakfast Club is sponsoring a girl from Germany. Host families invite exchange students into their families, provide them meals and transportation and the opportunity to live three months with them, to experience life in America with three different families. Rotary provides each student with a monthly allowance to cover their personal expenses. If you are interested in being a host family, or learning more about being a host family, talk to Jeff.

Vic announced there would be a Board meeting following the regular meeting.
