Evening Rotary Club Hears Local Radio Personality

At its regular Monday meeting, the  Jefferson City Evening Rotary Club enjoyed radio personality Brian Hauswirth's unique perspective into local topics affecting the city council, the school board and the Missouri General Assembly.

From his chair on KLIK-1240AM, Hauswirth noted that his medium provides local callers an unscreened opportunity to express view on timely topics.  The most frequent calls relate to recent annexation issues, four city council races, the municipal court judge race, and possible tax increases facing city residents if annexation fails next Tuesday.  School board candidates have been recent guests on the station, with five candidates seeking top votes for two seats.

Walt Vandelicht of the Jefferson City downtown Rotary club reminded all of the upcoming Rotary District Conference to be held May 1-3 at the Capitol Plaza Hotel.  The conference is in Jefferson City for the first time since 1992 because of District Governor Duane Benton. Volunteers are sought to assist Governor Benton and his committee in many different capacities.

President Vic Tomlinson announced that Tony Hiesberger has proposed Matt Shellenberger as a new member.

Suzanne Richter is coordinating a team of Rotarians to thoroughly clean the Rape and Abuse Crisis Services facility on Saturday, April 5th. She also announced that the club will be initiating a flower bulb sale and encouraged all in the community to contact any Rotarian for an order catelogue. Proceeds will go to assist  Rotary in successful eradicating polio from the world through oral vaccines.

Frank Pisano announced that the Rotary  essay contest has 22 entrants from local high schools. Paula Hartsfield announced that the club has earned $462.50 in sales of raffle tickets for the Family YMCA.

The next meeting for Jefferson City Evening Rotary will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 7th at 5:30 at Grace Episcopal Church, High at Adams Streets. Local citizens interested in membership are asked to contact Vic Tomlinson at 659-5076.
