Hi Evening Rotary Club Members!
Well, we had a week off and now it's time to meet again and get back into the Rotary mode. A summary of our last meeting along with other items are listed as follows:
- We had a very good speaker at our meeting on August 26! Scott Thompson, an investment advisor and CPA, provided some helpful tips on planning for retirement and investment strategies to consider these days. We may need to have Scott come back. (Thanks to Lora Nelson for identifying this speaker!)
- We do have a new member and her name is Katherine Schedler! Welcome aboard Katherine! We are pleased to have you as a member. I look forward to officially inducting you during September.
- I was very sorry to hear about the death of Jerry Buxton, father of club member Mark Buxton. Jerry Buxton died on Monday, September 2. (Mark, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.)
- Mark your calendars! This coming Saturday, September 14 is our Habitat for Humanity project! It sounds like we will be painting that day. (Anybody can do that, right?) It goes from 8:00 to 3:00. However, if you can't be there all day, then give whatever time that you possibly can. We'll be back at our familiar house at 414 Cherry Street. Please call Harry Richter at 893-5607 if you have any questions regarding this project. (Is anybody helping with lunch?) We're hoping for an excellent turnout. We need your help! Help! Help! Help!
- We had a great write-up on our club's meeting of August 26 in the local newspaper on Thursday, August 29 thanks to Cathy Libey! Thanks a lot Cathy!
- Another project that is underway is a blood drive that is scheduled for November 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Our club is planning this drive thanks to the leadership of Tony Hiesberger! Tony, we appreciate you and all that you are doing to make it happen!
- Although it's a ways off, we will NOT meet on Monday, November 18! Instead, all the Rotary clubs in this area have been asked to attend the West Club's meeting on Friday, November 22 at 12:00 noon at the Elk's Club to hear Duane Sterling from the Rotary Foundation. (Is there more than one Duane? Ha! Ha!)
- Our board will meet this Monday night, September 9 after our regularly scheduled club meeting. Be sure to be there board members!
- Guess what? Our dues are due! PLEASE be sure to pay your quarterly dues of $50.00 this Monday night. See our treasurer, Haroun, or Vic. ALSO, our PolioPlus pledge and at least the first year's payment is also due! See Mulima or Haroun to take care of the PolioPlus payment. (By the way, Mulima will be speaking to a Rotary club in Columbia, MO during October on PolioPlus. Way to go, Mulima!)
- Our nomination committee, chaired by Lora Nelson, may be approaching you about serving as an officer or board member effective July, 2003. Please give it serious consideration! The election will be held this October. (You can always nominate yourself.)
- We are working on the arrangements to sell Krispy Kreme donuts as a fundraiser for our club. We hope to have a date for this soon.
Remember! We need YOU and we need your help with recruiting new members! Who can you invite to our meeting this week?
See you this Monday night, September 9, at 5:30 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church!
Yours in Rotary,
Vic
