  • Possible Capital Area Rotary Blood Drive (Nov 2002) announcement

Thanks, JC Evening Rotary President Vic, for your Presidential Reports each week! Very good for the club!

I was happy to assist with this week's newspaper assignment as a "backup" reporter. Copies of same will be available at the next club meeting for your ongoing "Rotary Scrapbook" on the initial years of the club!

''with possible cooperation with ROTARY clubs and with support from others in community''

Tony Hiesberger met this week with the blood bank staff members at their JC offices to determine additional "specifics" for a club-proposed blood drive to be endorsed and strongly supported by all capital area Rotary Clubs.

Here's what was discussed:

1. Sponsorship: Either Jefferson City Evening Rotary Club, or (preferred) sponsorship by all Rotary Clubs of Jefferson City and South Callaway County
1. Staffing and Location: By Staff of Community Center Blood Bank at their permanent NEW location on Stadium Blvd West just below TARGET Store. Assistance by Volunteers/Rotarians in two-hour rotations at that location on date of blood drive.
1. Optional Dates: Wednesday, November 20 with optional date of Wednesday, November 13 Hours: 11 AM to 7 PM.
1. Media Sponsorship: Possibly KLIK Radio / I will discuss with Warren Kretch, including possibility of "on-site" broadcasting during the drive itself.
1. Printed materials/flyers: To be printed and provided by the Community Blood Center -- to be distributed by Rotary, including Tony H taking to local merchant's windows.
1. Special Sponsorship: Schnucks considered a possibility. More than donuts!? '''AND> Tony Hiesberger to contact AND INVITE MANAGER TO BECOME A ROTARIAN AS PART OF THE PROCESS!'''
1. Church and Samaritan Center Cooperation: The thought here is to inrease awareness of the importance of the blood drives in general and some volunteers from the churches by providing posters and encouraging each to put information in church bulletins.

This could be a "flop" (never!) - - - I consider it already on the road to becoming a grand success in pulling Rotarians together for increased community awareness and fellowship!

However, Rotarians need to expand beyond our supporting members/numbers for actual contributions! We CANNOT expect only Rotarians to donate blood or platelets.

We should also REMEMBER -- this is an edcational service opportunity for the community too!

For example, by going personally onto the morning talk radio shows, we can illustrate that one donor can assist three or more recipients, etc. Naturally, ROTARY gets publicity. This effort should assist us in ongoing membership activities, and with additional publicity for POLIOPLUS activities, as well as our other community-wide good works.

'''NOTE!''' ROTARY MEMBERS' COMMENTS AND FURTHER SUGGESTIONS ARE HEARTILY REQUESTED!SO. See you ALL at our Monday evening Rotary meeting where actions above need to be discussed and ratified before we move forward with assignments to approach other clubs and for Tony H to approach media supporters, Schnucks, etc.

Thanks! Yours in Rotary! Tony
