The Jefferson City Evening Rotary Club met on each Tuesday of the month of June.

Rotarians enjoyed some interesting programs. Tem Hiesberger, a retired Jefferson City educator, gave a program on Successlink.org. This website was created to help educators and administrators.

Bill Tackett, Cole County prosecutor, gave Evening Rotary an update on the ongoing cases concerning the community. One program that Tackett discussed was a plan to encourage parents to be more accountable for their children’s underage drinking. Suggestions were to encourage parents to attend the court appearance with their child, attend meetings with their child with parents of children who have been killed by drunk drivers, and to go to alcohol awareness classes with their child.

George Hartsfield, an Evening Rotarian, gave a program on the Gaming Commission that he has been assigned to. Hartsfield gave an update on current issues such as new proposals for casinos in Branson and St. Louis. He also explained some of the strict regulations that the gaming commission must follow in order to govern this area.

Installation of officers was held at DeVille on June 29th. Past District Governor Jerry Franklin gave a program on how to encourage and keep membership in Rotary. He then installed the following officers: Harry Richter, president; Jim Libey, vice president; Mulima Walusiku, secretary. He also installed the board which included: DJ Nash, Linton Bartlett, Jeff Kunce. President Harry Richter discussed the past achievements of Evening Rotary and encourages all to become more involved.

In July, Evening Rotarians will enjoy a program given by Tom Nield on his tour of duty overseas on July 6th and Dottye Dallmeyer will give a historical walking tour of the downtown buildings on July 13th.

Jefferson City Evening Rotary meets every Tuesday from 5:30-6:30. Evening Rotary meets at Grace Episcopal Church on the corner of High and Adams. Interested persons may contact President Harry Richter at 893-5607.
