- Club Update, August 14, 2005 announcement
Our meeting August 16th will include a program about Tsunami Relief in Sri Lanka presented by the Reverend William Edwards of the Vipassana Buddhist Church.
Thanks to Suzanne Richter, $77 dollars were raised during her meal last Tuesday. I heard many positive comments about the food and it kept the board members going during the board meeting that evening. We are looking for volunteers to provide a fundraising meal for the September 12th meeting.
Fellow Rotarians, I want thank Rotarians Lori & Kevin Keith for hosting a delicious Barbeque providing a chance for Rotarians and their families to meet our foreign exchange student from France, Alex. Alex had a chance to meet many of the Jefferson City evening members and is very interesting to talk to. Please remember all members of our club are encouraged to host Alex for activities that would make his time in our community more fulfilling. Check with his host family (the Keiths this fall) if you have an activity you would like to invite Alex to attend.
Also DJ Nash represented us at the Centennial Park meeting last Thursday and provided the following update. DJ may share additional information at this week meeting.

- I went to the Park meeting today after going by the park. As you know, it is magnificent! They postponed setting a date for the dedication until they can get a firmer date on when two plaques to go on the light fixtures will be done. They honor a man who grew up in that area and his grandson. Both died in auto accidents, about a month apart. And then get calendars cleared for several key people. They are looking at late September or early October. Time will be noon with the hopes of getting more Rotarians to attend.
- Frank Newell did a fabulous job of raising money
- every penny is in and the total was $25,219.36. This includes $2,000 from children at Discovery Place, a nearby day care center that is thrilled to have that area cleaned up.
